WGN America has announced a July 27 premiere date for its second original scripted series “Manhattan.”

The 13-episode drama, created and penned by Sam Shaw (“Masters of Sex”) and helmed by Emmy winner Thomas Schlamme (“The West Wing”), explores the danger and deception behind the mission to build the world’s first atomic bomb.

Produced by Lionsgate Television, Skydance Television and Tribune Studios, the show was filmed on location in New Mexico and stars John Benjamin Hickey as Frank Winter and Olivia Williams as Frank’s wife Liza. The series follows Frank and his team of scientists during the 1940s who are about to begin work on The Manhattan Project, a situation even they could know nothing about prior to their arrival.

The drama is exec produced by Shaw, Schlamme, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marcy Ross and Dustin Thomason and also stars Daniel Stern, Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Katja Herbers, Alexia Fast, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus and Eddie Shin.
