Fox has debuted the pilot of its new dramedy “Red Band Society” online ahead of its official broadcast premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The first episode will be available online until Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. ET via Hulu, Fox.com, Fox On Demand and the Fox Now app.
The pilot was unlocked via the efforts of fans — who also donated $100,000 to charity — by sharing “Red Band Society” content on social media. The money will be distributed to five charitable organizations: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Ryan Seacrest Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Teen Cancer America and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
The series stars Octavia Spencer, Dave Annable and a cast of young actors including Griffin Gluck, Nolan Sotillo, “X Factor” alum Astro, “Big Time Rush” star Ciara Bravo, Charlie Rowe and Zoe Levin. The show is a coming-of-age dramedy about a group of rule-bending friends and the adults who mentor them through the ups and downs of adolescence in Los Angeles’ Ocean Park Hospital.
“Red Band Society” is produced by ABC Studios in association with Amblin Television. The series is executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, Rina Mimoun, Margaret Nagle, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Sergio Aguero. Nagle wrote the pilot and developed the project from the award-winning Spanish series “Polseres Vermelles.” Alfonso Gomez-Rejon directed the pilot.
