Viacom's Music Group Launches Director Diversity

Viacom’s Music Group, which includes MTV, VH1, CMT and LOGO, has launched its Director Diversity Program.

The VMN Spectrum Director Diversity Program is designed to help attract and provide training for diverse candidates interested in gaining experience in both scripted and reality programming on MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo.

The program will also look to assist in the professional development of new creative talent, particularly among women and ethnic minorities. A maximum of four participants will be selected for the episodic director shadowing program and a maximum of eight will be selected for the non-dramatic director shadowing program.

The selected participants will be mentored by several directors from various Viacom Music Group series or programs and the participants will have the opportunity to shadow the series’ directors.

The VMN Spectrum Director Diversity Program will take place in various cities where VMN productions are based, including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Nashville. The selected candidates to take part in this program for one year will begin in October.

“This program is a win-win for everyone,” said Van Toffler, president of Viacom’s Music Group. “For the Music Group, we get to expand our relationships and connect with an entire new network of diverse, up-and-coming talent. And rising directors can get valuable hands-on experience, setting them up for more great opportunities ahead.”
