Terrence Howard is reuniting with “The Butler’s” Lee Daniels and Danny Strong on “Empire,” the duo’s hip-hop drama pilot for Fox, Variety has learned.

Howard will play industry heavyweight Lucious Lyon, the tough but wise patriarchal figure in the family drama set in the world of the music industry. Strong, who penned “The Butler,” is co-writing the script with Daniels — who produced and directed that film and will direct this pilot.

Project comes from 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine. Exec producers are Brian Grazer, Daniels, Strong and Francie Calfo.

Howard, who was nominated for an Oscar for “Hustle and Flow,” is repped by CAA and Authentic Management.
