Sundance Channel Set Beam Into Middle

Deal with OSN paybox will bring previously unseen indie fare to the MENA region

The Sundance Channel is going to the Middle East and North Africa.

OSN, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s leading pay-TV network, has inked a deal with AMC/Sundance Channel Global to launch its flagship Sundance Channel HD. 

Programming will be available to OSN’s premium subs both in  original language and with Arabic subtitling.

Content set to be going out in the MENA region includes a movie strand entitled 10 Days of Sundance featuring cutting-edge pics from the fest, including Andrew Bujalski’s laffer “Computer Chess,” Francois Deslisle’s dark drama “The Meteor,” and Sebastian Hoffmann’s “Halley,” as well as “Rectify,” pictured, the TV skein about a man who returns home after spending 19 years on death row for the rape and murder of his teenage girlfriend, his conviction having been cancelled due to new DNA evidence.

Films and TV shows of this type of indie ilk are a novelty in the MENA region, dominated by either local product or Hollywood mainstream fare.

The new channel, which celebrates independent feature films, world cinema, documentaries, short films, series and original programmes, will be available exclusively on OSN starting  January 15.

Based in Dubai’s Dubai Media City, the expanding OSN platform is owned and operated by Panther Media Group Limited and beams nearly 140 channels in the region’s  underdeveloped but steadily growing pay-TV market.

OSN has deals in place with all the major studios including Warner Brothers, Paramount, Fox, Disney, Sony, MGM, Universal, HBO and DreamWorks and carries globally leading TV brands including Disney channel, Sky News, Discovery Network and Nat Geo.
