Slingshot Global Media, U.K.’s Nevision Team for 1970s Drama Series ‘Oil’

David Ellender’s Slingshot Global Media has teamed with London-based investment shingle Nevision to produce a period drama series designed to appeal to global TV buyers.

Oil” is set against the backdrop of the rivalries and intrigue in the expat community living in the Persian Gulf in the 1970s. The concept hails from British writer Alan Whiting (“Wire in the Blood”) who will co-produce and pen the script with Matthew Faulk and Mark Skeet (“Jason and the Argonauts”).

Nevision is a perfect fit as we continue to team up with international partners,” said Ellender. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to start development on this unexplored story about American and European expats working together during a critical time in history.”

Ellender, former head of FremantleMedia, launched L.A.-based Slingshot earlier this year to produce and distribute TV projects through international financing and pre-sales. Nevision is an investment firm that aims to play matchmaker between creatives and financing and distribution partners. Nevision’s James Cabourne and Neil Zeiger will exec produce “Oil,” with Slingshot handling distribution.

Cabourne said Slingshot’s “vision for the future of globally appealing programming chimes with ours. The ‘Oil’ concept and the creative team behind it represent a new and special opportunity.”
