Showtime is in early development on a drama following a 1980s rehab, with Robert Downey Jr. on board to produce.

“Orange is the New Black” and “Justified” writer Gary Lennon will write the currently untitled drama. It comes from Sony Pictures TV and Lennon, Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s production banner Team Downey.

It will follow a rehab community in Venice Beach in 1983. Lennon will exec produce, with Downey Jr., Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell for Team Downey and the company’s Chris Mammolito as co-exec producer.

Team Downey and Lennon are repped by CAA.

Interesting, and very brave of Robert. I’m a fan from way back. He’s always been very open about his past, but such a phoenix that his younger fans either don’t know or don’t care about his past. I hope this gets picked up.

  3. Robbie says:

Good for Robert and Team Downey looking forward to seeing this.
