CW Tells ‘Liars’ Fans to Change the Channel in New Ad

“A” stake through the heart?

The CW is attacking ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” on its home turf with a commercial slated to air on the latter’s network. The promo references “Pretty Little Liars” fans’ growing agitation with the show’s antagonist, “A,” and urges them to change the channel — to its concurrently airing freshman vampire drama, “The Originals.” (EW first reported news of the TV ad).

“Liars,” a show that grew in popularity through social media, appropriately responded by Tweeting a picture that says “bite me” and encouraged fans to use the hashtag #LiarsUnite .

ABC Family has tapped into CW’s core audience of young adults in recent years with teen-friendly sudsers like “Liars” and “Switched at Birth.” But will this “Originals” campaign bring new blood to the CW?
