Peter MacNicol has joined “CSI: Cyber” as a series regular, CBS announced Friday.

MacNicol will play Assistant Director Stavros Sifter, a career FBI insider and supervisor of Special Agent Avery Ryan for the Cyber Crime Division in Washington, D.C. Sifter quickly rose up the ranks and positioned himself in a job where he is the clearing house between FBI Cyber and all other branches of government. He is a shrewd and savvy networker; a charmer with a hint of malice. Drilling down to the core of his “Classified” status, Sifter knows what very few know behind the closed doors of the U.S. Government. The social networks and devices we use on a daily basis are the Government’s way of monitoring its citizens domestically and abroad — therefore, Sifter has the impossible task of controlling the amplification of cyber crime in an era where the collective world communicates electronically.

CSI: Cyber” stars Patricia Arquette as Avery Ryan, the head of FBI’s cyber crimes division in Quantico. The character was first introduced through a backdoor pilot in the April 30 episode of “CSI,” which was written by show creator Anthony Zuiker, Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue, the team that launched the original series. “CSI: NY” showrunner Pam Veasey is attached to run “Cyber.” The series is expected to debut midseason on CBS.

MacNicol is best known for playing John “The Biscuit” Cage on “Ally McBeal,” for which he won an Emmy Award, and as Dr. Larry Fleinhardt on CBS’ “Numb3rs.” He most recently appeared as a rabbi on “The Mindy Project.” He is represented by Thruline Entertainment. “CBS: Cyber” is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
