OWN’s Lisa Ling Documentary Series to End After Coming Season

Lisa Ling Under the Gun Our

One of OWN’s original series, “Our America with Lisa Ling” will end after this upcoming season.

The documentary series premiered in February 2011, just weeks after the launch of the channel that is a joint venture of Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications. The docu series hosted by journo Ling remained a staple even as OWN has shifted its focus to more entertainment fare in primetime.

“Our America” has explored a range of substantive issues and controversies across the country. The final season will take an in-depth look at topics such as gun violence in Philadelphia, ADHD in American families, the largest foster care system in the country, criminal informants, the HIV epidemic in the African American community and the emotional story of a woman held captive for months.

The final batch of 10 “Our America with Lisa Ling” episodes will premiere May 29 with Ling examining churches in Georgia and Florida that practice “deliverance” to rid congregants of demons.

“Over the past three years, ‘Our America’ has cast a bright light into dark places, raised awareness of some of our country’s most controversial issues and provided a voice to those who are often not heard,” said OWN co-president Sheri Salata. “Lisa Ling’s top-notch journalistic work is the best in the industry, and we can’t wait to see her soar in her next chapter,” added OWN co-president Erik Logan.

Lisa is one of the very best in the field of investigative journalism. Her work and integrity are impeccable. I love that there is always an immense undercurrent of love and concern. It helps take the edge off the sometimes raw and dark revelations she exposes us to. I watch her series with complete trust that I am getting a clear and comprehensive look at the subject at hand. I’m grateful for all I have learned from Lisa’s work and look forward to seeing where her next adventure leads to at the closing of this series.

I just discovered this program; guess I’ve been watching re-runs. I think it’s one of the few shows on TV with any substance. I cast my vote to keep it on, I love Lisa Ling.

  3. Dan Ruble says:

Absolutely love your work Lisa. Always was impressed but after your work on the “faith healers” of Christianity, I know you are more than professional . . . you seek the truth. I would so love to work with you and your investigative crew somehow. You are the best, just don’t go away. Love you work.
