Prior to premiering its sixth season, Showtime announced that its hit show, “Nurse Jackie,” has been renewed for a seventh season.

The fifth season of the Edie Falco-staring dramedy averaged 3.13 million weekly viewers across platforms, up 14 percent year-over-year. Last year, costar Merritt Wever received an Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy for her role of quirky nurse Zoey Barkow.

The sixth season will follow Falco’s title character as she returns to the demons of her addiction and tries to cope with a real relationship (Adam Ferrara), an ex-husband (Dominic Fumusa), a daughter who is growing up way too fast (Ruby Jerins) and a sponsor whom she can’t seem to shake (guest star Julie White).

“Nurse Jackie” starts again on April 13. Filming of the seventh season will take place later this year in New York City.
