In the run-up to MipTV, Nickelodeon has acquired two seasons of “Alvinnn!!! and The Chipmunks” and will roll it out on more than 70 international channels (excluding North America and Brazil) in early 2015.
Created by Janice Karman, the series is produced by Bagdasarian Productions and OuiDO! Productions.
“Alvinnn!!! and The Chipmunks is a property loved by fans around the world so we’re delighted to bring this re-imagined series to a whole new generation of kids,” said Jules Borkent, Nickelodeon’s SVP of global acquisitions and international programming. “The new franchise will feature the fun-filled adventures of the Chipmunks and complement Nickelodeon’s existing line-up of funny, smart and entertaining kids’ content airing internationally.”
Philippe Soutter, co-founder and prexy of PGS Entertainment, said “Nickelodeon’s commitment for 104 episodes shows their dedication to making the show big and we are confident that the audience will be surprised and delighted with the new series.”
The contempo reboot marks the return of the franchise to TV after 20 years and follows the adventures of Alvin, Theodore, Simon and the Chipettes. Each episode features an original song produced by Bagdasarian.
“The TV series offered Janice and me the creative freedom to create stories and explore The Chipmunks and Chipettes distinct personalities in ways that our movies don’t allow,” said Ross Bagdasarian. “And having an original song in each episode enables us to showcase a multitude of musical styles. Janice and I are overwhelmed by the incredible response to the series.”
Skein has been commissioned by M6 in France.
