Bestselling crime novelist Patricia Cornwell is diving into TV, writing an original drama pilot for CBS through ABC Studios.

The untitled Cornwell project revolves around an unorthodox female police detective in San Diego who is haunted by demons from her past.

Cornwell has been paired with seasoned showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, who are helping her shape the concept into a TV series. The trio are exec producing.

Cornwell made a splash with her first novel, “Postmortem,” in 1990, written while she was working in the medical examiner’s office in Richmond, Va. She’s best known for the series of novels focusing on the Kay Scarpetta medical examiner character. In total, Cornwell’s books have sold more than 100 million copies.

Several of Cornwell’s novels have been adapted for telepics. But the CBS/ABC Studios project marks her first original effort for TV. She was paired with Berg and Harberts through their mutual reps at ICM Partners.

I’ve read many of Cornwell’s books and love them all. I came across one last week that I had missed.
Printed in 1997 “Unnatural Exposure. How timely — if the idiots handling the Ebola crisis had only read this book of Patricia’s, they would know how to take the proper precautions. Cornwell should be the head of the CDC.

Patricia Cornwell, I’ve always loved and read all of Dr. Kay Scarpetta books and looking forward to “Flesh and Blood”. Why has there never been a series about her with Lucy, Benton, and Marino? I guess I’ll be 75 yrs. old reading about Dr. Scarpetta if you’re still writing and I’m still living! Haha. (Will soon be 63.)

  5. Sandy Prout says:

  6. Vanada Stambaugh says:

I have been waiting for more from Patricia Cornwell!! I think her Scarpetta Series should be turned into a TV series. Her books have fascinated me for quite a while now and I can barely wait to get the new novel when it comes out. Nothing beats a good novel on a cold winter evening, unless it is something on TV from one of the best novelists in America today!
