'How and Why' set to lense in North Carolina this spring

Michael Cera and John Hawkes have been signed to star in the FX comedy pilot “How and Why” from Charlie Kaufman.

“Why” revolves around a brilliant man who understands nuclear physics but is clueless about how life works. Kaufman will write and direct the FX Prods. half-hour pilot, set to begin lensing in the spring in North Carolina.

Kaufman is exec producing with Anthony Bregman, a frequent collaborator on Kaufman pics including “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

Cera (pictured left) was most recently seen in Netflix’s revival of “Arrested Development.” Hawkes is an Oscar nominee and alum of HBO’s “Deadwood.” Cera’s with ICM Partners; Hawkes is repped by Innovative Artists.

“How and Why” marks the latest high-profile comedy prospect for FX and FX Prods.
