MTV Networks’ Logo is planning a June 26 special to celebrate milestones new and old for the gay rights movement.
The “Trailblazers” special will honor Edie Windsor (pictured), whose lawsuit against the Defense of Marriage Act led to the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the ban on same-sex marriage, and Windsor’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan. The telecast will coincide with the one-year anniversary of the high court’s decision, as well as the 45th anniversary of the galvanizing Stonewall Riots in New York City.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe is on board as a presenter for the telecast. “Trailblazers” will originate from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, one of the first churches in Gotham to perform same sex weddings.
Also set for appearances are Jared Leto, Ariana Grande and musical act Great Big World.
Logo aims to turn “Trailblazers” into an annual franchise. The cabler is asking viewers to submit nominations via its Facebook page for local advocates to be recognized during the telecast.
Chris McCarthy, Ryan Kroft and Chris Williams are exec producing “Trailblazers” for Logo.
