‘Saturday Night Live’ Adds New Cast Member

'Saturday Night Live' Adds New Cast

Saturday Night Live” has found a new cast member in its writing staff.

Leslie Jones, who has been a writer for the show since early this year, is joining the cast, a rep for the show confirmed on Monday. She’ll begin in this role starting with this week’s Jim Carrey-hosted episode.

The comedian was a contender in the search for a new cast member last fall. The spot went to Sasheer Zamata, but producers decided to bring Jones on as a writer.

Jones is only the latest “SNL” cast member to be plucked from the writing staff. Michael Che, the new Weekend Update co-anchor, was also upped from his spot as a writer to go onscreen.

Viewers may recognize Jones from her appearances on Weekend Update, including one in the 40th season premiere, proving her onscreen chops. She also starred in her own comedy special, “Problem Child,” for Showtime.

Jones and the show both tweeted about the news on Monday.

The news was first reported by Deadline.

Ms. Strong is no longer on update. I hope this change is for the better with addition of new cast member. I have seen this lady before on SNL. Wish Ms Strong the best but she was NOT funny on update.

  2. David says:

She and Pete Davidson are the two breakout stars that SNL has been waiting for, unless either or both of them have substance abuse or other personal issues, etc, they should both have solid careers.

Excellent move. Glad to see Lorne still has conscience moments.

  4. David says:

she’s a good addition but as long as the writing is sub-par, the show will be too

  6. cadavra says:

Having already appeared on the show two or three times, she’s not new new, but a welcome addition nonetheless.

  7. Good, she’s really hilarious. Colin Jost: not so much. He’s as dull as ditch-water.
