Laverne Cox to Guest Star on Bravo’s ‘Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce’

“Orange Is the New Black’s” Laverne Cox will guest star on Bravo’s upcoming series “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” the network announced Tuesday.

Cox will play Adele Northrop, a war journalist and LGBT activist who appears to present an award at a marriage equality gala.

Bravo’s first original scripted series, “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” is based on the books by Vicki Iovine. The show stars “House” alum Lisa Edelstein as Abby, a middle-aged self-help author who is adjusting to her new lifestyle separated from her husband, Jake (“Private Practice’s” Paul Adelstein). Janeane Garofalo, Beau Garrett and Necar Zadegan also star in supporting roles.

Cox currently stars as Sophia Burset, a transgender prisoner on Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black.” Cox has been a long-time advocate for the transgender community, earning multiple GLAAD awards for her work, as well as a feature on the cover of Time Magazine.

The 13-episode hour-long series is scheduled to premiere on Bravo later this year.
