Katie Holmes Returns to Star in Reelz’ ‘The Kennedys — After Camelot’ Miniseries

Katie Holmes will return for the role of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Reelz’ followup miniseries to “The Kennedys.”

Muse Entertainment’s four-hour “The Kennedys — After Camelot” will begin production next year for a targeted 2016 premiere on the indie cabler.

Holmes is set to exec produce and direct one of the episodes. The remaining three hours will be helmed by Jon Cassar, who directed all eight hours of the 2011 “Kennedys” mini. Stephen Kronish is also back as writer, adapting the teleplay from the book “After Camelot: A Personal History of the Kennedy Family 1968 to Present” by J. Randy Taraborrelli.

The first “Kennedys” miniseries wound up on Reelz after it was hastily dropped by cabler History amid controversy — and outrage by the Kennedy clan — about the mini’s depiction of John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy.

‘The Kennedys’ was a brilliant execution of storytelling based on the lives of one of the world’s best known families,” said Reelz’ CEO  Stan E. Hubbard. “We are delighted that we were able to step up and acquire the broadcast rights to that property and we have every confidence that this new miniseries will be as enthusiastically received as the last one.”

I agree with Ken on Ms. Holm’s performance… It’s hard to play someone as a private person vs. public because we just don’t know how they are, but in public we do and Ms. Holmes did an acceptable job and I too look forward to the follow-up mini-series. I think this will be a much harder role because Jackie was not in the public as much after the assassination and I applaud Ms. Holmes for taking on this challenge. I wasn’t sold on Greg Kinnear’s performance because he made JFK seem like a wuss in some seems.

I thought Ms. Holmes was very fine – and on occasion something of an uncanny revelation – in THE KENNEDYS. I look forward to the continuation of this mini-series.
