Watch: ‘Gotham’ Behind-the-Scenes Featurette With Ben McKenzie

Gotham Ben McKenzie

Exactly one month before its premiere, Fox has released an extended “Gotham” featurette with behind-the-scenes footage from the pilot.

The 20-minute-plus preview includes on-set interviews with the cast and crew, including creator Bruno Heller, director Danny Cannon and star Ben McKenzie.

Heller talks about casting McKenzie, describing him as the perfect actor to play a young Jim Gordon. Thanks to his “natural integrity and strength, an old-fashioned set of values really shines through his performance,” Heller says.

McKenzie’s character (the city’s future police commissioner) is charged with ridding Gotham of its infamous villains, including Catwoman, The Penguin and Fish Mooney, after being assigned a case that will change his life: the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents.

The Batman-universe prequel premieres September 22 on Fox.
