HBO has released a teaser trailer for season four of “Girls,” featuring Lena Dunham’s Hannah riding a bike down a shady, beautiful path before veering off the paved road and immediately crashing — only, in a fittingly meta twist for a show so incessantly discussed and dissected online, we discover that it isn’t Dunham who fell at all, but a stunt double, with the director and a bevy of crew members quickly coming into frame to make the switch from the stunt actress to the show’s star and creator.

While “Hannah’s” fall could either be a brilliantly simple metaphor for the struggles of aimless 20-somethings trying to make their own way or just a fun way to show fans that Hannah did indeed go to Iowa and isn’t great at riding a bike, the teaser seems to confirm that Hannah at least leaves New York for a time, a cliffhanger of sorts at the end of season three when she finds out she’s been accepted to the University of Iowa’s prestigious writing workshop. There are no hints about Marnie, Jessa or Shoshanna in the teaser, so fans will have to wait until the season premiere, expected in early 2015.

“Girls” is nominated for two Emmys, with Dunham up for best actress and Adam Driver for best supporting actor.
