Fox Shifts ‘Rake’ to Friday to Make Room for ‘American Idol’

Rake TV Review

Greg Kinnear’s legal drama “Rake” is shifting to a new time slot next week, opening up Fox’s Thursday schedule for what the network hopes will be a one-two ratings punch of reality TV in the form of returning hits “Hell’s Kitchen” and “American Idol.”

Starting March 14, “Rake” will take over the 8 p.m. Friday slot vacated by “Bones.” It will be followed by new episodes of “Enlisted” and “Raising Hope.” Fox hopes the ratings-challenged freshman drama will be more compatible with these programs and crosses its fingers that the show can build a cult following akin to “Fringe,” which ended last year.

“Idol’s” results shows shift to half-hour episodes at 9 p.m. March 27, when it will then be followed by the new Chris Meloni comedy “Surviving Jack.”

I’ll follow Rake to Friday nights; since I think it’s a really good show. As for Fox having a “one-two punch” on Thursday nights with Hell’s Kitchen and American Idol … good luck with that. I wouldn’t waste my time with either one of those shows. For me, it means I can free up my DVR time on Thursdays for the other networks now.
