Will Forte’s single-cam comedy “Last Man On Earth” has landed a series order at Fox, the network announced today. Series will lens this summer with an eye towards a midseason debut.

“Last Man’s” series order by Fox arrives months ahead of May, when the majority of broadcast pilots are ordered to series in adherence to the time table of pilot season and Upfronts. Fox head Kevin Reilly has emphasized in recent weeks his goal of moving to more off-cycle production commitments in an effort to ditch the notion of “pilot season” altogether.

In addition to creating “Last Man,” Forte will star in the comedy, which follows Forte as the last man on Earth. Earlier loglines for the project described “Last Man” as following two strangers who must ensure the survival of the human race, but Variety has confirmed that “Last Man On Earth” will now be a single-lead show.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller serve as directors, and are exec producing alongside Forte and Seth Cohen.

Best known for his tenure on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” Forte recently appeared in feature film “Nebraska,” and can be seen next in “Life of Crime” and “Squirrels to the Nuts.” He is repped by UTA, Mosaic and Hansen Jacobson.
