“Filly Brown” star Gina Rodriguez has been set to star in the pilot for the net’s adaptation of Venezuelan telenovela “Jane the Virgin.” Drama revolves around a hard-working, religious young woman who accidentally becomes artificially inseminated.
Jennie Snyder Urman (“Emily Owns, M.D.”) is writing the adaptation of the RCTV novel and exec producing with Ben Silverman, Gary Pearl and Jorge Granier for CBS TV Studios and Silverman’s Electus.
Rodriguez gained attention in Hollywood last year as the star of the 2012 Sundance Film Fest pic “Filly Brown.”
She’s logged a host of guest shots in recent years on A&E’s “Longmire,” TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles,” CBS’ “The Mentalist,” and she also hosts the Latino filmmaker showcase on cabler NuvoTV, “Nu Point of View.”
