El Rey’s ‘Matador’ Renewed for Season 2 Ahead of Series Premiere

Matador TV Review El Rey Netork

El Rey Network has renewed new spy thriller “Matador” for season two ahead of its series premiere on July 15, the network announced Thursday.

The series, produced by Roberto Orci, centers around the rise of Tony “Matador” Bravo (Gabriel Luna), a professional soccer player for the LA Riot who lives a double life as a covert operative for the CIA.

The second season will consist of 13 episodes. A sneak peek of the show’s series premiere is now available on iTunes, Vudu and Xbox 360.

“When Roberto first told me his concept for ‘Matador,’ I knew immediately that it had to have a home on El Rey. This show exceeded every possible expectation we had in terms of great storytelling, incredible action and unique characters,” said Robert Rodriguez, El Rey Network’s Founder and Chairman.

“Working with Robert and El Rey has been such a unique experience,” said Orci. “We’ve been given enormous creative freedom and have delivered the show exactly as we envisioned. We have so much story left to tell and thank El Rey and Robert for their unending support for a show that celebrates a new kind of hero on television.”

“Matador” also stars Alfred Molina, Nicky Whelan, Neil Hopkins and Tanc Sade. The show is created by Orci, Dan Dworkin, Jay Beattie and Andrew Orci. Executive producers are Rodriguez, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Dworkin and Beattie, Heather Kadin of K/O Paper Products, and FactoryMade Ventures and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa. Entertainment One Television has international distribution rights.
