‘Downton Abbey’ Finale Ratings Up Slightly From Last Year

The fourth season of PBS Masterpiece’s “Downton Abbey” wrapped with a strong 8.5 million Sunday night, making it the night’s most-watched scripted Sunday series that didn’t feature zombies.

The pubcaster’s most popular drama of all time, “Downton Abbey” outperformed last season’s finale (8.2 million), according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, but could not approach the series record of 10.2 million for its season premiere.

Among regular scripted programs on television Sunday, “Downton Abbey” placed second, behind the 13.1 million who watched AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” Also higher was NBC’s special preview of Tuesday comedy “Growing Up Fisher” (8.9 million), which followed the network’s coverage of the Winter Olympics at 10:36 p.m.

Last November, PBS announced that a fifth season of “Downton Abbey” would premiere in early 2015, and production is already under way.
