ITV has commissioned “Prom Crazy: Frocks and Ferraris,” a one-hour documentary detailing the preparation for, and events of, prom night for a group of U.K. teenagers.
The documentary, from veteran unscripted programming executive Grant Mansfield’s Plimsoll Productions, follows the the teens along the full process that goes into the big night: from worrying about dates to the dance itself. It also shows the industry that benefits from the prom craze, as businesses compete to cater to teens’ desire to win their peers’ attention and admiration at prom – often at the financial expense of the teens’ parents.
“School proms encapsulate and accentuate many of the attitudes and emotions wrapped up being a teenager in Britain today and this film sets out to capture this key moment – the social high point of secondary school – and its insight into the fun, fascination and febrility of young lives,” said Katy Thorogood, ITV’s factual commissioning editor.
“Prom Crazy: Frocks and Ferraris” will air in Britain later this year.
