Daytime Emmys to Run Online After Failing to Land TV Deal

The 41st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be available only via live streaming this year after the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences failed to secure a TV deal for the kudocast.

The Daytime Emmy ceremony is set for June 22 at the Beverly Hilton.

The kudocast has bounced around various broadcast and cable nets in the past few years — HLN, the CW, CBS — but the failure to secure a TV deal is surprising, given the focus in the TV biz on live, DVR-proof events that generate social media buzz and second screen activity.

NATAS emphasized that the online platform would allow the event to reach a global audience. The Daytime Emmys in recent years have struggled to draw much of a crowd on the domestic front.

The live stream is set to begin at 5 p.m. PT at DaytimeEmmys.net. Spike Jones Jr. is producing the show.

  1. I WANT THOSE DAYTIME EMMYS AWARDS BACK BEING TELEVISED!!!! SHAME ON YOU TV STATIONS!!! IF IT WASN’T FOR MOST OF THEM & THEIR COMMERCIALS THAT HAVE BEEN ON TV ALL THESE YEARS; A LOT OF YOU WOULD BE OUT OF A JOB!!! :-(

  2. carol aldrich says:

The Emmy’s have been boring the last few years. They need more interesting hosts. No people like Kathy Griffen.

  3. Award Shows are a Big Waste of Time, Money and Effort says:

No TV deal for a big waste of time? Good! Why bother with an on line show, at all? Now if it would only be possible to do away with the prime time emmy broadcast……. But no, Hollywoods types live to congratulate themselves and pat themselves on the back. Ridiculous! Bottom line, people are bored with such exibitions and many simply do not care about the awards or the recipients.

Have to agree somewhat…..I haven’t watch in years, but I do sneak a peek at who won or who is up for soap Emmys. These award shows are far too many…..why do they need so many is my question.
