Showtime has tapped Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti to star in the drama pilot “Billions,” set in the world of high finance.

Neil Burger (“Divergent”) will direct the pilot, set to begin production early next year in New York. Brian Koppelman, David Levien and New York Times’ columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin wrote the script and are exec producing.

“Billions” revolves around the clash between two larger-than-life figures, a U.S. Attorney played by Giamatti (pictured left) and a hedge fund titan played by Lewis (right).

The deal brings Lewis back to Showtime following his three-season run on “Homeland,” for which he won the drama actor Emmy in 2012. Giamatti worked with Burger in the 2006 feature “The Illusionist.”

Lewis and Giamatti are repped by UTA. Burger is with CAA.

I hope that the material is strong. With no offense meant, it is difficult to image two less charismatic actors.
