CW Pilot Pickups Include Rob Thomas'

Brains, organ donation and artificial insemination are the themes for the CW’s latest pilot pickups.

The network has announced pilot pickups of Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero’s “iZombie,” about a med student-turned-zombie forced to work in a coroner’s office; “Identity,” about a young woman asked to investigate a powerful family in exchange for help with an organ transplant, and “Jane the Virgin,” an adaptation of the Venezuelan telenovela “Juana La Virgen” about a young Latina who accidentally finds herself pregnant.

Writers Thomas and Ruggiero (“Veronica Mars”) will serve as executive producers on “iZombie” with Warner Bros. TV’s Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge. Show is based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint.

“Identity” comes from executive producer and writer Corinne Brinkerhoff (“Elementary”). Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Heather Kadin of K.O. Paper Products and Scripted World’s Rob Golenberg and Alon Aranya are also executive producing.

“Jane” is written by executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman (“Emily Owens M.D.,” “90210”). CBS Television Studios will executive produce in association with Ben Silverman and Gary Pearl of Electus and Jorge Granier.

The CW also confirmed pilot orders for Greg Berlanti’s “The Flash” and a “Supernatural” spinoff, “Supernatural: Tribes.”
