Crime series stars Dominic Monaghan and Michael Nyqvist
LONDON — Scandi crime series “100 Code,” which was created by Bobby Moresco (“Crash,” “Million Dollar Baby”), kicked off production Monday. Red Arrow Intl. is distributing.
Moresco, who won an Oscar with Paul Haggis for penning “Crash,” will direct several episodes.
The series toplines Dominic Monaghan (“Lost”) as NYPD detective Conley, who travels to Sweden to investigate a string of shocking murders. He is paired with Swedish cop Eklund, played by Michael Nyqvist, who starred in the original Swedish-language “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” franchise.
“I am very excited about filming in Stockholm: the architecture, the light, the people and the atmosphere. Then, of course, the idea of a magnificently beautiful and safe city like Stockholm harboring evil just below the surface, an evil that is all encompassing just seemed like it would work,” Moresco said.
“For me it all begins with the script, which is fantastic and comes via a group of writers that can claim an authentic knowledge of the subjects they are dealing with. The characters are rich and real. The actors playing the characters are all very applied and interesting. In addition, Swedes and Scandinavians seem to have a great feeling for the crime genre right now,” Monaghan said.
“100 Code” has been developed by Red Arrow Entertainment’s L.A.-based scripted arm, Fabrik Entertainment (“The Killing”), and is produced by 100 Code AB and Zen Prods. (“The Bible Code”). Joakim Hansson will produce.
Klaus Zimmermann as well as Fabrik Entertainment’s Henrik Bastin and Mikkel Bondesen will serve as exec producers along with Moresco. The series is produced for Kanal 5 in Sweden and marks Sky Deutschland’s first co-production.
