‘Cosmos,’ ‘Believe’ and ‘Crisis’ Rise in Ratings on Quiet Sunday

'Cosmos,' 'Believe' and 'Crisis' Rise Ratings

Original series “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” on Fox and the already canceled “Believe” and “Crisis” on NBC gained ratings ground on Sunday, a night that saw sluggish, but winning, numbers for ABC’s special episode of “The Bachelorette.”

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, science series “Cosmos” averaged a 1.3 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 and 3.5 million viewers overall), rising 18% (0.2) from its most recent episode of two weeks ago to tie with ABC’s “Bachelorette” as the top broadcast series among young adults in the 9 o’clock hour. Fox tied with ABC for the night’s 18-49 broadcast lead.

Earlier for Fox, an original “Enlisted” did a 0.4/2 in 18-49 and 1.1 million viewers overall (about what it was doing on Friday), followed by repeats of “American Dad” (0.5/2 in 18-49, 1.3 million viewers overall), “The Simpsons” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 2.5 million viewers overall) and “Family Guy” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall).

At ABC, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was the top broadcast series in its hour in adults 18-49 (1.0/4 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall), and was followed by “The Bachelorette” on a special night (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall), which similarly led among the Big Four from 8 to 10. The dating show was down from the 1.6 it did on its regular night last Monday. A special repeat of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” closed out the night (0.4/1 in 18-49, 1.6 million viewers overall).

NBC opened stronger than usual thanks to a special repeat of “America’s Got Talent” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall). That seemed to help “Believe” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall), which rose 29% (0.2) week to week in 18-49, and “Crisis” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall), which was up 14% (0.1).

CBS followed an original “60 Minutes” (0.9/4 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall), which was the night’s most-watched program overall, with encores of dramas “Elementary” on a special night (0.5/2 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall), “The Good Wife” (0.5/1 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) and “The Mentalist” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall). The Eye drew more total viewers than any other network on Sunday.
