Comedy Central has promoted veteran network exec Jim Sharp to West coast exec VP original programming and development.

The former senior VP will report to content development and original programming prexy Kent Alterman and continue to oversee development and production on all West Coast-based original pilots and series. Sharp will also manage all digital development on CC:Studios.

During his tenure at the Viacom-owned cabler, Sharp has been involved with the development and launch of numerous hit series including “Tosh.0,” “Reno 911!,” “Workaholics,” and the Peabody Award-winning “Key & Peele.”

“If the U.S. government was aware of Jim’s understated intelligence, finely honed creative instincts, and steel-eyed leadership, the war on terrorism would be over,” Alterman said in a statement.

After a brief stint as development veep from 1996-97, Sharp returned to Comedy Central in 2002  from Broadway Video, where he served as senior VP of creative affairs and production since 2000.
