Comedy Central Orders Ben Stiller-Produced ‘Big Time’

Scripted half-hour hails from duo behind Red Hour/Maker Studios' 'Next Time on Lonny'

Comedy Central has given a 10-episode order to “Big Time in Hollywood, FL,” a scripted half-hour from Ben Stiller’s Red Hour banner and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Comedy Central execs are expected to announce the pickup Friday during the cabler’s sesh at the winter Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena.

Series follows two brothers and aspiring filmmakers who head out on a journey to pursue their dream after being kicked out of their parents’ house. “Big Time” was created by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf, the pair behind the Red Hour-produced Web comedy “Next Time on Lonny,’ also produced by Red Hour for Maker Studios.

Anfanger also stars in “Big Time” opposite Lenny Jacobson. Kathy Baker, Stephen Tobolowsky and Jon Bass round out the cast.  Schimpf directed the pilot. Stiller, Anfanger and Schimpf exec produce with Red Hour’s Debbie Liebling, Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein, and Brillstein’s Lee Kernis and Brian Stern.

“Ben, Alex and Dan have fulfilled my career-long dream of having a show based in Hollywood, FL,” said Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s prez of content development and original programming.

There’s no word yet on a premiere date.

“ ’Big Time’ combines the directorial style of Hitchcock, the acting prowess of Streep, the budget of House of Payne, and the nutritional value of Velveeta.  I think people’s minds will be blown wide open. For real,” said Stiller.

Anfanger and Schimpf are repped by Brillstein and attorney Lev Ginsburg.

In addition to greenlighting “Big Time,” Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes of weekly animated series “Moonbeam City” from Scott Gairdner. Show is exec produced by Olive Bridge Entertainment’s Will Gluck and Richard Schwartz and will debut in 2015. Voice talent featured on the series will include Elizabeth Banks, Will Forte, Kate Mara and Rob Lowe, who serves as producer on “Moonbeam.”
