CNN Reassigns Up to 50 Employees as Breaking News Gets More Emphasis

Jeff Zucker

CNN is making as many as 50 news employees reapply for their positions as it works to bring its digital and on-air newsgathering functions together, according to a person familiar with the situation.

This person said the Time Warner-owned network expects to maintain the same head count after the process is complete. Employees who are affected will be allowed to apply for new, open positions in the days and weeks to come.

TheWrap.com previously reported that CNN management had told certain managers and producers they would have to apply for new jobs, potentially at lower salaries.

Under CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker, the news network has been placing more emphasis on live coverage of breaking events as well as documentaries, leaving less room for the creation of pre-taped video packages that had been more of a staple on the network.

After watching CNN news coverage of the White House Correspondence Dinner last night, I suggest that you rearrange the job of the 4 bozo’s who covered it for your station. It was a disaster and so juvenile that I cringed watching it. The thought that these people are the up & coming faces of the news is really scary !!! I felt sorry for Ben Stein for being associated with them. They were so disrespectful to him & laughing among themselves at some of his comments. He has more knowledge & experience than the 4 combined & they offered nothing in way of useful information. It was a disgrace and the station should be embarrassed !!! I would never watch that station for any news EVER!!! Just Awful.

CNN used to be my go -to for a wrap up of the day….I would watch it before bed and most of the day….I dont know what happened???I tried to watch in the morning…but that singing girl makes me crazy..think her name is Robin or something…I need a news anchor..not someone promoting their album…she seems nice enough…but belongs on a variety show…not a prime news show…come on…peoples days are so busy we need our news when we need it.Anderson Cooper remains a bright spot…I also very much enjoy the Chicagoland docu series…excellent.
Many years ago CNN was a powerhouse force….please bring it back to what it was..I for one will be watching
