HBO Nicks Cinemax’s ‘The Knick’ for Labor Day Viewing

The Knick HBO Labor Day

Hoping to give an audience boost to Cinemax’s new drama “The Knick,” parent company HBO will be airing the first three episodes of the historical medical drama on Labor Day.

Starring Clive Owen and directed by Steven Soderbergh, “The Knick” is set in turn-of-the-last-century New York City and tells the story of the surgeons, nurses and staff at The Knickerbocker Hospital who push the boundaries of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates.

Cinemax has a lot riding on the project, which was renewed for as second season ahead of its first season bow. While the premiere episode did not attract many viewers for its original viewing on Aug. 8, it did gain an audience through repeat airings that weekend. Cinemax also offered a free online streaming of the first episode.

The HBO marathon of “The Knick” beings at 8 p.m. on Sept. 1. The show will return to Cinemax to air its fourth episode at 10 p.m. Sept. 5.

I adore this show!!! I wish they would invest in advertising it on every basic and cable channel. This is the “Hill Street Blues” of cable!! Underrated and under watched. Too many people don’t realize how wonderful and deep this show is!!!

  2. Bob Wachtel says:

My cable bill is quite expensive at nearly $200. I dropped the Cinemax package for it had a lot of crap on it. However, I kept all the other premium movie channels. My only hope is that HBO will show the entire “The Knick” series after Cinemax airs season one. I will not re-subscribe to Cinemax. I must stick to this decision as other HBO subscribers should too. Let’s hope more viewers complain to this form of “extortion”.

Awesome show, I hope they move it to HBO permanently. I do not want to pay for another premium channel just for one show
