CBS’ ‘Survivor’ Finale to Face ‘American Idol’ for First Time

Survivor Ratings CBS

CBS is apparently no longer afraid of “American Idol.”

After years of scheduling its “Survivor” finale on a Sunday, CBS has slotted the conclusion to the reality adventure show’s 28th edition for Wednesday, May 21.  “American Idol” is expected to wrap on May 21, one night after the show’s finale performance episode, so this would be the first time “Survivor” finished opposite “Idol.”

The “Survivor” finale will air from 8 to 10 p.m., followed by its reunion special.

CBS has good reason to feel good about its chances on that night, since “Survivor” has pulled ahead of “Idol” head-to-head in adults 18-49 for the past two weeks, and last night it won out in total viewers for the first time, according to Nielsen.

The Eye on Thursday also announced finale dates for its other primetime series, which will kick off on March 31 with the previously announced one-hour series finale of “How I Met Your Mother.” Rookie drama “Intelligence” will also wrap that night, so CBS will need something to fill the Monday-at-10 hour for the rest of the season.

Rookie comedies “Mom” (April 14) and “The Crazy Ones” (April 17) will be the only exits in April, with the latter getting a one-hour sendoff on the last Thursday before the start of the May sweep.

The week of May 5-11 will feature the season finales for “2 Broke Girls,” “CSI,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Hawaii Five-0” and “Blue Bloods.”

The Tuesday drama trio of “NCIS,” “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Person of Interest” will end on May 13, followed the next night by the season finale of “Criminal Minds.”

The Big Bang Theory,” “The Millers” and “Elementary” will close on May 15 (the final Thursday of the television season), and all of Sunday’s shows conclude on May 18.

“Mike & Molly,” which started its season in November and had more original episodes, will wrap on May 19.

Bad decision by CBS. I have been able to enjoy both finales this way. Why do they make your viewers have to pick?
