History has given the green light to an eight-hour miniseries about the Texas Rangers from the producer behind ratings hit “Hatfields & McCoys.”
Like the other project, the event series from A+E Studios and ITV Studios America and produced by Thinkfactory comes from “Hatfields'” Leslie Greif. Roland Joffe (“The Killing Fields”) will direct. It has the working title “Texas Rising.”
Centering on the Texas Revolution from Mexico and the resulting rise of the Texas Rangers, the miniseries reteams Greif with Texas-born Bill Paxton, who costarred in “Hatfields” and will play Texas hero Sam Houston. It also stars Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Thomas Jane, Olivier Martinez, Chad Michael Murray, Michael Rapaport and Max Thieriot.
Greif will exec produce. Dirk Hoogstra, Elaine Frontain Bryant and Julian P. Hobbs are overseeing for History.
“It’s exciting to be back working with History and Bill Paxton, a team that made television history with ‘Hatfields & McCoys,’” said Greif. “The battle for Texas independence was epic and really the battle for the future of America.”
