BBC America Commissions First Original Comedy Series

BBC America has commissioned “Almost Royal,” a comedy series about young British aristocrats forced to interact with the Yanks while on their first trip to the United States.

The mockumentary-style project centers on Georgie (Ed Gamble) and Poppy Carlton (Amy Hoggart). The heirs to a Norfolk, England estate and distant relatives to the British Royal Family agree to let a “camera crew” follow them on an unofficial royal tour of the United States. While Georgie is hoping the tour will make him more “manly,” Poppy dreams of finding fame as a pop star/actor/author/lifestyle guru/cookery presenter. Unfortunately for her, no one has bothered to tell her she’s not talented in any of these departments.

“Almost Royal” is produced by Burning Bright Productions with Clive Tulloh as executive producer and Seamus Murphy-Mitchell as series producer. It’s distributed by BBC Worldwide. The series is directed by Chris Faith and Marcus Liversedge. It premieres at 10 p.m. June 21, following the “Orphan Black” season two finale.
