Ferrara will provide introductions to the films, all of which were co-produced or acquired by Univision News and Pivot, including “Cesar’s Last Fast,” which aired on Univision and Pivot in May, and “Marmato,” which will be simulcast on Univision’s UniMas network and Pivot on August 23. Filmed over the course of six years, “Marmato” recounts a Colombian mining town’s struggles against a Canadian company determined to gain control of the $20 billion in gold underneath their homes.
“I’m excited and inspired by Panoramica’s mission to bring these important films to a wider audience,” said Ferrera.
“We are delighted to have America hosting the ‘Panoramica’ series,” said Isaac Lee, president of Univision News and CEO of Fusion. “We know that she will connect with our viewers and create the perfect lead-in for the outstanding films that will follow her introduction.”
“America has a proven passion for films that unearth the root of social and eco-political issues in the Latino community,” said Evan Shapiro, president of Pivot.
All of the documentaries in the series will air in Spanish on Univision or UniMas, simulcast in English or with English subtitles on Pivot.
