ABC Series Draw Most Upscale Young Adults in Premiere Week

Modern Family Attracts Upscale Viewers

ABC, which had more top-rated entertainment series among young adults in premiere week than any other network, is also off to a good start in attracting “upscale” viewers.

In NAD data (Nielsen Audience Demographics) for premiere week, the Alphabet had seven of the top 15 regularly scheduled entertainment series among adults 18-49 living in homes with an annual income of $100,000 or more — a desirable category for advertisers.

ABC’s “Modern Family” tops the list (6.59 rating), edging past CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” (6.56), which was the clear No. 1 entertainment series in overall 18-49 rating. Other ABC shows in the top 15 were “Scandal” (No. 6, 4.11), “Black-ish” (No. 7, 4.09), “Once Upon a Time” (No. 9, 4.02), “The Goldbergs” (No. 11, 3.72), “The Middle” (No. 13, 3.69) and “How to Get Away With Murder” (No. 14, 3.40).

NBC claims three of the top four spots on the list with installments of “The Voice” on Tuesday (No. 3 with a 4.83 rating) and Monday (No. 4, 4.57) as well as “The Blacklist” (No. 5, 4.33), the No. 1 drama of the week.

Joining “Big Bang Theory” on the list for CBS was new drama “Scorpion” (No. 12, 3.71). Fox was represented by its Sunday comedies “Family Guy” (No. 8, 4.06), “The Simpsons” (No. 10, 4.01) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (No. 15, 3.25).

Counting only regularly scheduled entertainment series, ABC was the network leader in adults 18-49 living in $100,000-income homes with a 2.68 rating. It was followed by NBC (2.43), CBS (2.03) and Fox (1.63). The Alphabet won by an even larger margin among adults 18-49 with four or more years of college (2.72 to 2.32 for NBC).

  1. Good for ABC says:

Watching and enjoying more ABC programming this season. CBS…..not so much. That network is socially challenged and its most culturally diverse shows are NFL games.
