ABC Family has given a series pickup to the addiction drama “Recovery Road.”

The series, based on Blake Nelson’s 2011 young adult novel of the same name, follows Maddie, a high school party girl dealing with addiction who is forced to choose between being expelled or going to rehab, and ultimately enters a rehabilitation facility.

“ABC Family is best known for its ground breaking original series and ‘Recovery Road’ is right in our wheel-house,” said Karey Burke, exec VP of programming development. “This series will explore relevant social issues for our audience and shine a light on addiction.”

Bert V. Royal (“Easy A”) and Karen DiConcetto (“Ruby & The Rockits”) will serve as exec producers, along with Craig Piligian (“Abducted: The Carlina White Story”), Beth Miller (“Revenge of the Bridesmaids”) and Danielle VonZerneck (“Left to Die”). Royal and DiConcetto wrote the pilot.

“Recovery Road” has been in the development pipeline at ABC Family for more than two years. A pilot was produced in June but it’s understood that there will be some recasting before production begins on the series.

Or you could just bring back Twisted. Just a thought.

  3. I am surprised that ABC Family decided to ok Recovery Road to series. It sound MTV would be the channel that would be airing it. I can’t wait to see how Recovery Road will developed Maddie as a character / the individual character that she will encounter.
