ABC Developing ‘Derrick Storm’ Series Based on Richard Castle Novels

Derrick Storm Richard Castle ABC TV

This is meta: ABC is in the early stages of developing a drama series based on the “Derrick Storm” series of mystery novels penned by Richard Castle, the author played by Nathan Fillion in the Alphabet’s drama “Castle.”

Drama vet Gregory Poirier is writing the pilot for ABC Studios and will exec produce with “Castle” creator/exec producer Andrew Marlowe and exec producer Terri Edda Miller. The husband-and-wife writing and producing team is developing the project through their MilMar Pictures banner, which has an overall deal with ABC Studios.

The “Derrick Storm” novels that have been referenced on “Castle” have been published in real life under the name of Richard Castle. The Derrick Storm character is a spy who gets called on by the CIA for mysterious missions. The project is not envisioned as a “Castle” spinoff, however.

“Castle” is heading into its seventh season on ABC after reaching its highest ratings to date in season six. The show has a dedicated fan base that have pushed the “Derrick Storm” novels to best-seller status.

Poirier was the creator/exec producer of ABC’s Ashley Judd drama “Missing” that aired in the 2011-12 season. He also developed drama projects last year at ABC and NBC.  He is repped by Michael Sugar at Anonymous Content.

The most recent Derrick Storm book was REALLY good.

I think it would be super-fun to have Fillion guest star occasionally… as a villain.

It might be interesting to put Castle and Beckett in reversed rolls, Castle as Storm, and Beckett as the heroine in the Derrick Storm Shows, if for no other reason then to see how that works out. They have been the other way around for 6 seasons now, lets see what happens if the Derrick (Castle) takes the reins this time. And with Lainey or Gates, Espo, and we can never forget Kevin giving Storm and his Heroine (Stana) the support that they would need, yet in the different stories, being or sharing the Hero/Heroine positions, with Storm still getting full credit for the good job well done! Keep the audience involved in the story, and thinking that they know what is next and then, throw them off at the last minute. Like the show they did that went back to the 1940’s. That was an awesome show! “The Blue Butterfly”.

The books were a lighthearted enjoyable read. If they can do a show that comes off the same way, it might be an enjoyable watch.
