This is meta: ABC is in the early stages of developing a drama series based on the “Derrick Storm” series of mystery novels penned by Richard Castle, the author played by Nathan Fillion in the Alphabet’s drama “Castle.”
Drama vet Gregory Poirier is writing the pilot for ABC Studios and will exec produce with “Castle” creator/exec producer Andrew Marlowe and exec producer Terri Edda Miller. The husband-and-wife writing and producing team is developing the project through their MilMar Pictures banner, which has an overall deal with ABC Studios.
The “Derrick Storm” novels that have been referenced on “Castle” have been published in real life under the name of Richard Castle. The Derrick Storm character is a spy who gets called on by the CIA for mysterious missions. The project is not envisioned as a “Castle” spinoff, however.
“Castle” is heading into its seventh season on ABC after reaching its highest ratings to date in season six. The show has a dedicated fan base that have pushed the “Derrick Storm” novels to best-seller status.
Poirier was the creator/exec producer of ABC’s Ashley Judd drama “Missing” that aired in the 2011-12 season. He also developed drama projects last year at ABC and NBC. He is repped by Michael Sugar at Anonymous Content.
