Lee Blaine Lands Frank Capra Achievement Award

Assistant director honored for career in commercials

Lee Blaine has worked with quite the cast of characters throughout his career as an assistant director on commercials. From a talking Chihuahua (Taco Bell) to a drumming bunny (Energizer), Blaine has seen it all.

The DGA is feting him with the 2014 Frank Capra Achievement Award, bestowed upon an assistant director or unit production manager.

Blaine, whose career has mostly been in commercials, was surprised because “all of the previous winners have had prestigious careers in television,” but he couldn’t be prouder.

“I think for the members of the guild that are living in commercials, this sends such a strong message that we’re on the map and we do count as far as our membership goes.”
