“I absolutely loved Ricky Gervais when he hosted the Golden Globes, but I don’t think that’s appropriate for the Teen Choice Awards,” Hyland said. “I absolutely also love Tina Fey and Amy Poehler when they host together, so I hope Posey and I can have somewhat of a dynamic like that. I’m a really big fan of Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg when they hosted the Oscars and Tonys in the past.”
“I’ve had calls with the writers and I think people are going to enjoy it,” Hyland said. “If all else fails, I’ll just wing it. I think that it will be fun no matter what.”
Hyland, who has recently started shooting the sixth season of “Modern Family,” also appeared at the Hollywood Bowl for the musical “Hair” in early August. Hyland teased that there may be singing involved in her performance at the Teen Choice Awards involving an ensemble group.
“I was singing before I could speak,” Hyland quipped. “I am forever in debt to (director) Adam Shankman for giving me the chance to be able to perform again in L.A. I had a blast, and I hope I am able to do something like that again.”
After a water main break on Sunset Blvd. caused a flood that damaged UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion on July 29, the Teen Choice Awards were moved to Shrine Auditorium late in the planning stages.
Hyland commented that she was rehearsing “Hair” when she heard the news. “I hope that everything is going well over there, and not too much damage has occurred. I think (the show) will be fine. There are so many hard working people on this show that they’ll make it work.”
The 2014 Teen Choice Awards will be broadcast live on Fox on Aug. 10 at 8/7c.
