It’s not everyday you see a groundhog, a rat, a trio of hedgehogs and an adorable pug on the red carpet, but there they were right along with the Hollywood elite at Regal L.A. Live on Jan. 11, for the premiere of Open Road’s 3D animated heist pic “The Nut Job.” Star Katherine Heigl got up-close-and-personal with the scene-stealing pug, named Precious after a character in the film, necessitating the use of a handy lint remover. “I’m a mom. I have to always be prepared,” Heigl noted.

Helmer Peter Lepeniotis talked about the process of turning his animated short into the feature, saying it was the nuttiest thing he’d ever done. “Really, it was three years of constant work,” he said, saying the work was very intense but worth it to work with its awesome cast.

Joing Lepeniotis, Heigl and co-star Will Arnett for the furry festivities were Open Road’s Tom Ortenberg and Jason Cassidy, exec producers Hong Kim, Mike Karz, Hoe Jin Ha and Bill Bindley, and guests Adam Sandler, Jaime Pressly, Melora Hardin and Courtney B. Vance.
