The Hollywood Chamber Community Foundation will honor Judge Judy Sheindlin with the 2014 Mary Pickford Award at the annual Heroes of Hollywood awards luncheon.
The award recognizes a woman who has demonstrated a commitment to the mentorship of women in the workplace, served as a leader and role model and made significant contributions to community service.
Sheindlin, the presiding judge on the Emmy-winning “Judge Judy,” began her career in family court in 1972 in New York. Her No. one first-run syndicated show is now in its 18th season.
“I can’t think of anyone who better epitomizes what Mary Pickford stood for than Judge Judy Sheindlin,” Cindy Braun said in a statement. “She took her common-sense approach to legal issues as a family court judge and transitioned to TV judge and has made a significant impact on her community and the nation to become one of Hollywood’s most successful and beloved television stars.”
Foundation Chair Heather Cochran and Heroes of Hollywood event co-chairs Homer Alba and Braun have also announced the other hero honorees who will be recognized along with Sheindlin: Jeff Anthony of Iron Mountain Entertainment Services; Denise DeCarlo and Betty Fraser, co-owners of As You Like It Catering and the restaurant Grub; Jackie Goldberg of Senior Star Power Productions; Hollywood Arts Council; Starline Tours and Marc Wanamaker, principal officer at Bison Archives.
The Heroes of Hollywood awards luncheon will take place June 5 at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, with NBC4 anchor Robert Kovacik returning as MC.
