Longtime Malibu dwellers may miss funky Alice’s Restaurant, where the likes of Cher, Elizabeth Taylor and Arnold Schwarzenegger mingled easily with tourists. But chef Jason Fullilove is bringing the new Malibu Pier Restaurant & Bar into the modern age with local produce and seafood deemed sustainable by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The whitewashed open ceiling, patterned tile floor, whalebone wall decorations and rope chandeliers stylishly hint at the restaurant’s nautical leanings, while the views are, of course, unbeatable.
Eat: Malibu Pier Stew with Carlsbad clams, mini lobster rolls, spot prawn corn dogs, oysters on the half shell
Drink: Indulge in hibiscus-blood orange margaritas or a Hemingway daiquiri at the separate indoor-outdoor bar.
