Wong Kar-wai Remembers MH370 Stunt Man Ju Kun

Wong Kar-wai led an emotional tribute to Ju Kun, a Chinese stuntman on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

MACAU – Hong Kong-director Wong Kar-wai led an emotional tribute to Ju Kun, a Chinese stuntman who was a passenger on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Along with 239 others, Ju is missing-presumed-dead.

Wong used the platform of his prize-winning appearance at the Asian Film Awards in Macau, on Thursday, to call on the Malaysian government to improve the search for and information about the missing flight.

Ju had appeared in AFA winner “The Grandmaster,” as well as 2008 hit “The Forbidden Kingdom” and was due to start work on The Weinstein Company’s “Marco Polo,” which is now shooting in southern Malaysia.

Actress Zhang Ziyi was the first to mention the airplane accident, but when Wong returned to the stage for the second time to receive best film award for “The Grandmaster” he delivered a calm, but direct message. “One of our members was a passenger on the Malaysian Airlines flight. We urgently ask that the Malaysian government strengthen its transparency,” he said before translating the message himself. That left Zhang with tears streaming down her face and the 800-strong audience at the House of Dancing Water theater gasping.
