Broadcast Music, Inc. will honor legendary musician Stevie Nicks as the BMI Pop Icon at its 62nd annual BMI Pop Awards.

The ceremony will recognize the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s most-performed pop songs in the U.S. and will also include an all-star musical tribute to Nicks.

“Stevie Nicks is an extraordinary songwriter and pedigree artist of stunning genius and unwavering grace, on and off the stage. She has defined an era of pop and rock culture around the world with her brilliance and unforgettable magnificence,” Barbara Cane, BMI VP and general manager of writer/publisher relations in Los Angeles, said in a statement.

Singer-songwriter Nicks has received 12 BMI million-performance citations, 12 BMI pop awards, a BMI urban award and a BMI country award for her hit songs, including “Dreams,” “Rhiannon,” “Leather and Lace,” “Landslide” and “Gypsy.”

After beginning her career as a solo artist in 1981 with the release of her debut album “Bella Donna,” Nicks later went on to become part of Fleetwood Mac, whose “Rumours” album was one of the biggest selling records of all time. Nicks has since been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, won multiple Grammy awards and earned numerous gold and platinum records.

Past BMI Icons include Paul Simon; Carole King; David Foster; John Fogerty; Kris Kristofferson; the Jacksons; Crosby, Stills & Nash; the Bee Gees; Willie Nelson; Merle Haggard; Brian Wilson; Carlos Santana and Dolly Parton.

The awards ceremony, hosted by BMI prexy Del Bryant and Cane, will take place May 13 at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.

Stevie Nicks certainly has worked hard as a member of Fleetwood Mac and then starting her solo career. After writing many songs for Fleetwood Mac, she had so many more she wanted to release for her fans that she decided to do some solo albums as well. Thank you for honoring my favorite poet/singer with your BMI Pop Award. With time she should be honored with other awards for all that she has given to this world!!!
