Pussy Riot Pair Arrested Sochi: Report

LONDON — Two members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot have been arrested in Sochi, where the Winter Olympics are taking place.

Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova said they had been held in the town center on suspicion of theft, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Tolokonnikova said that they had come to Sochi on Sunday to perform a new song, “Putin Will Teach You to Love Your Motherland,” about “political repression in Russia.”

Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova spent two years in jail for singing a protest song in a Moscow cathedral. They were released in December.

The pair appeared on stage with Madonna at an Amnesty International concert in New York earlier this month. They called for the release of anti-government prisoners in Russia.
